I have a 12 year old dog. She is not as active, doesn't run anymore, but is still very sweet, can still go out to the bathroom, but more often including usually once in the middle of the night sometime, but I will continue to take care of her as I promised to do the day I adopted her. I owe it to her.

Yours doesn't sound stupid, just aging. We all do it.

I have a 14yo beagle mix that has been the sweetest dog I've ever owned! Rescued him in 2008. Sometimes I think he rescued my wife and me!
He now has cataracts in both eyes, is hard of hearing, shits on our concrete because he doesn't want to walk out onto the wet grass.
Came home last week to find him laying in one of his dig holes in the yard as the rain was pouring down on him!
He still "has" to have his walk around the neighborhood every day, stopping to pee on every mailbox and street sign.
I know he's senile, but he's not in pain, and as long as he still has energy and an appetite, we'll keep him around. I pray we'll recognize when the time is right to let him go!
