If you're young 20-45 I would say most guys fall into the stiff shaft or a heavier weight regular flex shaft. I work in the golf business and it's comical how many people thing they need an x stiff shaft when in reality only about 5 percent of golfers I encounter swing fast enough to benefit from it.

I am about to pull the trigger on some Srixon Z945 7-9 and Z745 4-6 - project x shafts xp115s.
I had given up golf for a while but got some game improvement irons 4 years ago to get back into the game - KBS Tours for the shaft - those clubs did their job - time to get serious again.

X-stiff graphite for my woods
Stiff steel for my irons
My club head speed is on the edge of stiff/X-stiff shaft recommendation. I hit the ball more consistent with X-stiff shafts.
