re: How much longer before Doctors are obsolete?

I agree that surgeons will probably be around for awhile. But I think we're talking about primary care doctors, mostly diagnoses. There's no way a human doctor can compete with a machine in that regard.

yeah TODAY. This thread isn't about today. It's about some distant time in the future assuming the rise of tech continues at its current pace.

there are already automated machines out-performing surgeons for certain surgeries. Imagine what that will be like in 50 years.

Who would've thought that lawyers might be our saving grace from a world removed from human production and decision...even still..I might just be inevitable and machines and technology are just and always was the next step in evolution. In 15 years...AI will perform just about all task better the humans with no breaks or wage demands. The table has been getting set for years and years for this inevidibility. From patriot act to NDAA and Obamacare. Old money rules the world.

I don't even go to the doctor, I just use WebMD. I've already recovered from cancer, ebola, and an assortment of hard to spell diseases.
I may be wrong, but doesn't all of the information on WebMD come from doctors? So indirectly you still use doctors and they are not obsolete in this case.

We have very different outlooks on the future. Mostly because my outlook ends question with question marks, but there's other differences too.

You're oversimplifying medicine. It is one of the more complicated jobs in existence. Automation is going to eliminate the vast majority of other jobs before doctors go extinct.
It is more likely that man and robot will work together. In 15 years, you'll still have a human doctor telling you that you are too fat and drink too much. And you'll likely still ignore him and complain about your back hurting.

Who really believes humans will be chosen over vastly superior machines simply because "they need a job and have to do something..????? Lol. We're like fricking roaches to these people.

What automated machines are out performing surgeons in surgery? If you are talking about the robots in surgery I don't think you understand how those work. They are only a tool that can do nothing without a surgeon controlling them. They have no AI. They are only used because the arms can articulate better than the current laparoscopic equipment.

Not until AI is sentient

No I'm not. I chose doctors in this thread for two reasons:
1. Because medicine is complicated
2. It will be the FIRST thing all investors (other than military) will really be racing to automate because it will bring the most money and control.
I am not denying other jobs will go first - in fact, I am presupposing it.

Sure. In 15. What about 50?

The best hope for young kids today is working in the field of computer programming and diagnostics

You're underestimating the capabilities of modern algorithms. here's a neat story about it
But yeah this is already starting to happen. And I'm pretty sure a robot can tell me I'm fat.

Those fields will obviously be around forever.
Unless
The machines fix and build the machines.
Then...we fricked lol

Id like to see a robot tell a person they have cancer and 6 months to live. The robot then says there's no point in treatment because you'll only live an extra 2 months and it's not approving the use of the treatment bc of some algorithm that doesn't factor in a human's ability to hope or that extra time spent with family.

God damn the future is TERRIFYING lol...I mean everything wants to control us or wants us DEAD. food shortages, super bugs and on and on.

Machines will replace doctors whenever their creator is confident enough to accept malpractice liability, and patients become worth a shite at accurately documenting their medical history.
Machines can't work if their input is shite. And right now, patients give shite input for the most part.

Why would an algorithm not factor that in?

Hey man...I'm with you. I'm going to tell you something. We are exactly at the point DAMN NEAR where there is just about not a DAMN thing we could do about it. If everyone decided right now they've had enough...one flip of a switch and we're all in the dark with NOTHING.
COOL
