Depends on the work they do. For example, there is a video relay service where interpreters do just that for hearing to deaf and deaf to deaf individuals and they may low to mid 30/hr. It’s cumbersome for 8 hour days but pays.
As for interpreting for the deaf community for doctors visits, concerts, etc, the charge is normally $50/hr for 2 hour minimum and the contractors will see more of that $50/hr than the interpreters who work for the interpreting service company in Nola (I won’t say the name here)
And yes, I know this information is generally accurate because I’m related to a person who heads the interpreting services for the Nola/northshore area and conducts the press conferences.
