My grandma would put one of those in my stocking every year for christmas and i never even got close until last year. I finally youtubed instructions and found out it was basically just a series of moves and was pretty easy to do.

I can solve a 3x3. I haven’t learned any of the others.

It was a little tricky, because getting one number three the whole thing off. Never realized you had to add 5 for the first number
Got any videos that can explain it better for me? I tried another one and couldn’t get it after doing the first one
I was thinking about rolling number combination locks, those you decode by feeling for looseness in a number when pulling up on the shackle and by going through all ten numbers on each wheel you will find the loose one on each wheel and pop it right open. If you are talking about a dial type combo lock most of the time you can bypass the mechanism by shimming the shackle, even the "anti-shim" versions. I don't know how to decode them offhand but try the lockpickinglawyer on YouTube and if he doesn't have a video just search decoding and the brand/model you have on YT.

My FIL taught me and my son how to do it a few years ago. Once you start learning it's hard to stop. Many have said it and it's true, it's just a series of steps (algorithm) that you need to remember in order. Once you can remember the steps, you can solve it no matter how much or little someone mixes it up.
