Why is it at that at the mystical age of 18 a parent has to completely shut their kid off from any financial assistance? My kids will have to work in college because I'm not footing the bill for things like food and beer, but I'll certainly assist them in getting a good education.

It may seem crazy, but I'd like to pay for a portion of a down payment on a house and their wedding if they are great kids too.
Is this where I apologize for being financially successful and responsible?
Felt like people needed to see that again. Exactly how I feel. Just because I went through hardships and got loans for my degree doesn't mean I want my child to as well. I want him to have a better life and I'll teach him along the way how to be responsible and work for what he wants. He will get a job as soon as he is old enough.
Already have an account for him that I transfer money into weekly to give on his wedding day.
Don't understand this apparent bitterness some have when it comes to taking care of family. Not taking about freeloaders, but a responsible kid with a good head on his shoulders? He will have his education paid for. Credit cards, rent, bills will be his responsibility
