Move to Bentonville, AR.
That way WalMart shopping will be local for you.
Happiness is mostly about managing expectations.

Produce at the organic granola place next door to me is cheaper than the supermarkets. And a lot more fresh.
We shop at the local produce stand a fair amount and there's a local store near me that is my regular spot when I need to get 4-5 things. It's 25-30% more than Walmart/Costco, but there's never a line and that's no big deal when I'm spending $40. I go in that store probably 5 days per week to get butter or beer or whatever.

How close is local?
We have a Food City five miles away and are thankful that they came out this way. The local IGA had a good butcher and not much else. Their butcher now has his own shop in the county court house town (18 miles away). No one misses the IGA. A local hardware store is also five miles away and may have what we are looking for one trip in five. No lumber yards, no clothing stores, and Knoxville is 21 miles to the east side of town.
We plan trips in and take into account the gasoline that it will take to get to and from as well as to sit in traffic jams.
We did go to town on Tuesday and made eight stops for specific purchases. It was a good trip because the stores had what they said they had (which doesn't always happen).
We depend on Amazon for deliveries of some things that town stores should have but don't.

I don't understand why anyone would shop at your store when you are charging people double the price of Walmart, Target or Aldi
"WE DO NOT ACCEPT EBT"
There are people who shop there in large part b/c of what that sign says between the lines.

Calendro's is probably the biggest culprit in BR of what OP is talking about.
If anything, I would prefer to eat locally at specific dining establishments over most chain restaurants.

There is no local grocery store where I live. The nearest grocery store is 17 miles away. It is a Kroger.
