Thanks for the link, but those are all quotes from 2016 and 2017, not last week. I just felt the need to point that out, in case it makes any difference.

No doubt. Everyone envisions a skynet situation, but there is a need for human intervention well into the future. Using AI to write programming is something that will have to be monitored, so some jobs will be eliminated with automation, but others will be created.

It really doesn't make a difference. The article was from last week. The context of the article is what matters. Not that it was said 3 months ago.

And to what end? Computers keeping themselves alive even after our own human extinction because they fear their own death?

Full disclosure: I watched Short Circuit last night for the first time in 20 years.

Ally Sheety isn't that pretty and Steve Gutenberg is a shitty actor. Did you also remember Capt Harris is in that movie?

Isn't that what humans are doing?

Your assuming AI doesn't take on those qualities

I'm not convinced that it wouldn't take decades for AI to take that leap after they've already wiped us out. In the interim, there would be nothing to keep them going.

In hindsight, an observer would conclude we simply killed ourselves with our own devices by trying to play God. It may even be referred to as the Icarus Period among far out observers.

After they wiped us out...

Everyone assumes we will war with computers at some point. I think that is idiotic.

Some people watch too much tv

There would be no reason for them to stop either. They are just machines.

I don't think any of that happens fwiw. The idea of ai deciding to kill us all is silly.

I think ultimately ai will become the most important tool we have to solving more complex issues rather than being the end of us.

i work in oil and gas. making holes in the ground. its close to becoming fully automated. They already have fully automated rigs. I give it 10 years before you see the workforce start to drop off.

VP of Software Development. No chance of my job becoming automated. I decide what gets automated and what doesn’t!

I’m a pilot. Y’all let me know when machines figure out how to fly airplanes. I’m set for life.

Yeah I was just kidding about a computer taking over my job. Unless you can teach a computer how to take long lunches, hit happy hour, hunt/fish/golf then my job is safe

Being a knowledge worker gives me security in certain aspects of my career path. Well, until AI robots enslave us.
