So, we will grow to accept that one 1 of every 10,000 people to walk across a crosswalk will be struck by a car.

Or

1 out of 10,000 flights won't land safely. (About 10 a day)

It's funny you pick two tasks that have already been automated for decades with very good results.

Neither one of those are automated.

Well by the time I’m replaced I’ll no longer be a rep anyway so go on robots, do your thing.

I’m not sure how a robot could do the job though?...

Then I need to get my head checked. I could have sworn "autopilot" and "electronic cross walk signals" have been around for decades.

I'm going to make an appointment with a neurologist before I participate in this discussion with you any further.

That's what McKesson, Change, and Cardinal are all trying to figure out, with billions in investment every year specifically to do this.

Why are there pilots on the planes and drivers in the car then?

What if automation turns it into a 5 minute process that can be done at a local gas station (recharge station) while you refuel. Doesn't seem far fetched.

If they can cut out a windshield and put one in on all kind of different makes and models throughout the day, not like at factory where they do the same exact car over and over, than so be it. Also how the hell a robot gonna repair a windshield? That’s more of an art than anything.

You really should. Because the only case where a plane can autoland is in near perfect conditions, and even then it is heavily monitored and cumbersome. No planes can take off by themselves.

Autopilot isn't what you think. It takes monitoring and data input.

I have no idea how you think crosswalk signals are any form of automation that protects pedestrians from being hit by a driverless car.

It's a drill and some resin.

Likely not possible now, but doesn't seem far fetched.

I think more industries become obsolete through technology than positions replaced by automation.

In the grand scheme of losing jobs from the economy, none.

If current jobs transition then there is a huge difference.

We don't need slide rule manufacturers any longer, but those people now make microchips.

Did you see the opinion of Mark Cuban floated earlier in the week?

Consider the source, but I thought it was interesting his views on AI and computer science degrees becoming worthless.

Sure would be cool if you floated them out here so we could read them. Maybe a link or something.

Considering how much of what I do now is developing systems that overwatches humans and intercedes on frick ups, probably after Skynet becomes self aware.

So I'm good.

I get that he's a billionaire but his argument only makes sense if you have no understanding of computer science. His argument is people will need to think critically but that's probably the most important skill of a computer scientist. Being a programmer is a lot more than just writing code. If a computer is capable of replacing a computer scientist than that computer is also capable of critical thought and can replace any human at any job.
