Because they get access to kids as young as 13-14 who have absolutely no idea about the realities and motives of war.

Yeah, I know we've talked about AQ when we were both there iirc. I was a PFC that whole deployment because I was so new, I hit my 1 year in the middle of my iraq deployment. Had no leave because they told us to burn what we didn't have for predeployment leave. So I had to do recruiter assistance for my post deployment leave. I had more ribbons than the SSgt recruiter i fell under.
Life was not good for those recruiters then. You have missing a war, and the highest recruitment. Those dudes in 06 when I came in were like 3-4/mo. That buildup was massive. Then pretty much immediately draw down. Those recruiters were miserable sons of bitches. Some were amazing leaders in the fleet though because of it.
I hated/loved recruiting. I put up with a lot of bullshite during those 3 years. It's not fun, but can be.

I did route clearance for 12 years in the Army before college at LSU. I was 21B with the Army. I can assure you that there’s many, many, many MOS’s that don’t require combat arms.
Your assumption is a fallacy.

Doesn’t happen often, but I recall multiple occasions in which some mid range felonies got dismissed on the condition that the person was joining up and shipping out.

Its disqualifying if any legal paperwork says anything about reduction for military service. Permanently DQd!

I don't think you know what a fallacy is. Or an assumption. Or what his point is.

Exactly, I had one speeding ticket that I needed to take care of before enlisting, and this was for the Army.
The whole “go to jail” or join the military is such BS nowadays with an all volunteer force. I’d assume multiple misdemeanors wouldn’t get a person in nowadays, where moral waivers are infrequently granted nowadays.

I actually wanted to join the military my senior year of high school. I was pretty high on joining the Marines and doing infantry though I talked to the Army as well. This is an ever-present reminder to me of how naive 17 year olds can be btw. In both instances, it was the recruiters who actually ended up unintentionally dissuading me. The Army guy was just overzealous and a really poor recruiter but the Marine guy...
I got pulled out of PE, which first of all pissed me off because I played basketball everyday in PE, to go meet with him in the library. The guy pitched me as if I was some retard who could be convinced to join the Marines as it's the only way I could gain his respect. His pitch was, "I only respect people who have completed the Marine Corps crucible. If you haven't passed the crucible, I don't respect you." He then kept trying to get me to sign the paper right then and there. It was at that moment I realized that that guy was a complete buffoon douchebag and I severed ties with the recruiting office and went ahead and went to college.

The only thing I got lied to about was that I HAD to put down 6 AFSCs (jobs) that I wanted.
You can put one if you want, it doesn’t matter.
My recruiter was actually a real good guy though. He commissioned not too long after I left for basic and found me on global 3 or 4 years later. He called up my flight chief’s office checking up on me making sure I was happy where I was and seeing how it was going.

Lol made me laugh, because it is true. It's not always the sharpest crayon eater out there on Americas streets lol.
I think I checked in with 13 to my RS as a new recruiter. I believe only 4 of us lasted the whole 3 years. Idiots get processed and a lot of recruiters get in trouble
