As said already, find a competent mechanic to look it over.
A word of caution for all looking at a used car in the next few months. A lot of cars sustained heavy water damage in TX over the last month or so and some of those will be on the open market. Be careful of a deal to good to be true.

You have to kick the tires. I'm not sure what you're supposed to be looking for but I know you have to kick them.

Ah, yes, the good ole rubber check. I had a buddy who forgot to do this with a car he bought. Turns out the wheels were made out of plastic. All sales are final and by the time he found out the wheels weren't rubber, it was too late.
