Does it maybe have something to do with the amount of bleach they use to clean them drying them out differently? Maybe I’m grasping for straws here, but I know they are bleached af, or should be anyway.

Not sure about bleach, but I imagine hotels wash their towels/linens in blindingly hot water. If so, it’s going to very quickly strip out any coatings or oils that might otherwise limit water absorption.
