The article doesn't specify if the guy received any claims money at all or if he is fighting for supplemental claims money.

My initial thought was that he maybe received some money, discovered additional damage, and then couldn't get any additional money for the repairs prior to the insurance company going bankrupt.

Not saying it would have helped in this case, but it's always a good idea to take photos and videos of your home before each major tropical storm to have more ammo to support your case when fighting insurance company for more money.

Based on the article, sounds like he got paid for initial damages like his roof, but wanted more and sued, but then Maison went insolvent, and now he’s at the back of the line with LIGA. I’m not buying the “structural damages” BS. Most of the time, that sort of damage is caused by foundation issues, not a hurricane.

They filed bankruptcy to avoid payouts. The law can be really screwed up.

My insurance company went bankrupt after Hurricane Sally. Had almost $300K in damages. It took about 3 years to get paid. I still lost about $40K above and beyond my wonderful deductible.
