Do any of yall have a wife/friend that is an occupational or physical therapist that works for a home health therapy company? We are about to make a move to Houston and my wife is seeking a job in a company that does home health, however was curious how safe that would be to pursue in the Houston area.

My wife is a home health PT and loves it. She was apprehensive initially about going into people homes everyday, but her company sends a nurse first to "vet" the patient before she goes.

She previously worked at one of the clinics in BR. When she switched to home health, her pay went up 50% and she works maybe 25 hours per week.

Ah, so you're assuming the nurse is female. Lol. Stay uninformed!

My wife is a home health pt and has been for about 5 years. She’s never had an issue. She loves it and as the other poster said, her income went up significantly switching from the clinic setting.

It has its ups and downs. She should see a pay increase from the clinical setting, but not all pay mileage. Also she may not get paid for the appointment if the patient left, or refuses service. More wear and tear on your vehicle, but less BS than a clinical setting.

Thanks for the info. They were going to give her a car allowance but I don't think it's anything significant. The only real concern is the safety of it.

I'm on the software side of the industry and work with many home health and hospice agencies. I've never heard of any issues like that in my 10+ years. As another poster mentioned, a nurse goes out first 99% of the time to evaluate the patient and the home.

I'd be more concerned with the health of the company she is thinking of working for. Another thing to consider is whether she wants to work for a therapy company that has contracts with several agencies or if she wants to work for an agency directly.

Therapists are the highest paid in home health, but there demand dropped in 2020 with the implementation of PDGM.

I currently work in finance for a home health provider. To answer your question, it all depends on the territory that the company would give your wife. Make sure she asks during the interview what territory/zip codes they would hire her to cover, and you can do some research about the area to see if it's considered safe or not.
