Just stay away from Sonitrol or any of those national companies.

I had one of those "contracts" one time and it was impossible to cancel. I sold the house, cancelled in writing and cut the lines to the system at the box so I knew it wasn't active. They contacted me two years later and told me I owed back payment and collection fees for monitoring. It was a protracted battle to get that shite off my credit report.

Pay for the equipment and installation up front. Then shop for the lowest monthly monitoring fee with no contract. There are national monitoring services for as low as $8.95 a month.

Don't believe that crap about free equipment and installation. It's like cell phones--you pay for it one way or another.
