There used to be quite a few lawsuits where kids got toes and fingers nipped off by escalators. You don't hear about it as much anymore, so they may have figured out how to make them safer.

When I was tiny my shoelace got caught at the bottom of an escalator, and started to pull me in. Shoe popped off before the escalator could eat the whole shoelace. My shoe didn't get sucked in, for those wondering.

Also has an elevator door shut on my arm and never reopen when I was really young at Disney. A man saw what was happening and jerked my arm out. Didn't have any injuries from that either.

After watching that I’ll never walk up or down an escalator that isn’t working

No

I lost the other one in a boating accident.

My daughter slipped on an escalator one day and the metal stair part with the jagged edges went right through her leg. We had to go to the emergency room as she was losing blood. Probably should have sued the bookstore we were at where it happened to cover our costs but that's not how I'm wired to think.

If there's one thing I've learned from watching Live Feed is you do not trust asian elevators or escalators.

I have to do it at least once every two weeks here in DC because I commute using Metro. Their escalators go out all the time.
