It is the emblem of a Waffen SS formation.

Did you mistakingly put WW1 in the question? Was not aware of a WWI unit with that emblem.

Did I? I'm sorry. I'm on my phone now. I meant this formation was from WWII.

Plane time. What is this plane? Bonus: Allied designation?

That's the Japanese Mitsubishi A5M. The A6M Zero replaced it before the start of the WAr in hte Pacific but it still served in secondary roles until the end of the war. We called it Claude I do believe. .

You are reaching deep here. I beliebe that's a Hungarian Toldi 38 Tank. They were used by the Hungarians on the Eastern Front.

BTW, the formation emblem I showed before.....

... is for the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. it got it's emblem from this man...

... His name was Sepp Dietrich. He rose from WWI NCO to command first the 1st SS Panzer and later the 5th & 6th Panzer Armies in WWII. The word "Deitrich" translates to "skeleton key" in English, thus the emblem of the 1st SS Panzer.

It looks like a Marine Raider Bn patch but I thought they had a a skull in the middle of them. I've never seen one with a parachute.

That's it.

Neat little plane. It was still in fairly widespread use on land bases and smaller carriers at the start of the war.

It is a Marine patch but not the raiders.

I'm going to go out on a a limb and say it's got to be an airborne unit of the Marines. The patch is a Marine Raider patch other than the parachute.

Ha! Got you both. That's the emblem of the 1st Marine Parachute Regiment. They were formed shortly before the outbreak of WWII but never actually parachuted into combat. Disbanded about halfway through the war.
