I took a picture at a monument for that ship.

Greatest maritime disaster ever in the US, like 2,000 people died. It was severly overloaded because it was carrying people back from the war.

I think it happened the day before or after Lincoln was shot, so it is merely a footnote in History, even though the loss of life was so great.

There is a memorial in Memphis or west Memphis I think to it.

Yep. It happened the day after Lincoln was shot.

Bond did use this pistol in many movies but this gun is famous for killing someone in real life.

ETA (As that's a PP, not a PPK - I give partial credit.)

Darth - I don't know the famous victim. Shame on me.

EFTA: Darth - wiki says it was a PPK that killed you know who (AH)...

He shot himself in the head with a Walther PPK .380.

To be fair, that is speculation - the actual pistol is long lost, and he did own several PP and PPK pistols. I don't know how popular .380 was at that point, but it remains possible.

I was just beating Napoleon up over "England" as the manufacturer - as if English/British firearms (pistols, particularly) have been worth a crap in centuries.

Yeah, their rifles are (or were) awesome, pistols not so much.

anyway, let's try a two for one one....

1.

This picture shows the first ever aircraft launched from a ship. What's the name of the ship?

2.

This picture shows the first ever aircraft landing on a ship. What's the name of the ship?
(HINT: It's a different ship from picture 1)

Bonus: Name of the pilot in each picture?

You're correct on the pilot. He did take off from the Birmingham and he did land on the Pennsylvania. but he did not fly from one to the other. When he took off from the Birmingham he flew to shore. He did not attempt to land on the Pennsylvania for another couple months. And when he did he took off from shore.

Looks to be a really early version of the paddle-wheel steamboat. Pre-Civil War for sure. That's all I've got.

Robert Fulton's steam boat?

That's just a SWAG based on the fact that it is clearly a very early paddle wheel steamship.
