No... But you're not too far off from where this patch came from.
Is it like Indian reservation National Guard or something?

Real quick before you go. That patch belonged to the US Army 45th Infantry Division. They changed it to this...
.. in 1939. Both patches were to honor the Native American culture of the Southwest where this division was raised from.

Alright. Here's another odd own from back in the day....
What unit is this?
This unit is known for a rather bad distinction, what was it?

Sonofabiatch. The Thunderbirds. I absolutely should have recognized that one.
My great uncle, Sgt. William (Bill) Price was a Thunderbird. He was killed in action May 30, 1944 just outside Campolene, Italy as a member of the 180th Infantry Regiment.
My mom has a pristine copy of a (for lack of knowing the proper term) 'yearbook' they published during the war.

106th Inf. Div., the Golden Lions. Badly mauled during the Bulge.

Correct. During the Battle of the Bulge they had two of their three infantry regiments cutoff and surrounded by the Germans. Those two regiments held out and tried to breakout but were unable to do so. Thus those two regiments surrendered to the Germans in what was the largest capitulation of American forces in Europe during WWII.

Cool... Here's another...
1. What outfit is this?
2. What do the letter's "CD" stand for?
3. This outfit is the only American unit to ever fight a war openly against the Soviet Union's Red Army. What war was it and in what country was it fought?

I'm actually supported by the 88th RRC, so I've dealt with that patch in the past.
85th Division, "Custer Division"
As far as the Red Army (I'm not 100% it was under the name U.S.S.R. or Soviet Union), but the 85th fought with the White Army against the Red Army in the Russian Civil War at the back end of WWI - in Russia.

Lt. John Cudahy(sp?) of the Cudahy meat family, served in Russia with the U.S. contingent.

Well the Red Army was officially established in January 1918 so it was known at that time as the Red Army. As for the name "USSR" it was not officially adopted until 1922. Before that it was known officially as "Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic". The USSR came to being when it and the other Soviet Republics in places like the Ukraine merged.

OK, another plane. We know this is a F4U Corsair, so that's not what I am looking for. This is one of my models of a particular pilot's bird. He was a famous pilot who flew in a very famous squadron. Name the pilot and squadron.
Posted on 7/24/14 at 7:24 am to FightinTigersDammit
Yep. What is the squadron in question?
