Yep, that's my guess - Kemal Attaturk. (Still revered by the Turkish officers I've come in contact with).

Alright, times up....
His name was Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. He was a general of the Ottoman Empire's army. He first rose to fame for his role in the Battle of Gallipoli.
After the end of WWI and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, he was the first president of Turkey. The Turks view him in the same way we Americans view George Washington. In fact he was originally named just Mustafa Kemal. The "Ataturk" was added to his name in the 1930's and means "Father of the Turks".
