It was a bit of a trick question. There are 8 countries there due to the fact at that time India was part of Great Britain.
Going left to Right....
1. GB
2. USA
3. Australia
4. British India
5. Germany

They are in China during the Boxer Rebellion 1899-1900. Those powers formed what was known as the Eight-Nation Alliance to put down the Boxers as they were called.

But something destroyed this Coastal Texas city, and what did it prompt the construction of?
Probably not the answer you are going for, but it prompted the birth of modern day Houston. Galveston was going to be the huge port city and after that storm people were too nervous about investing there. Ship Channel and Houston were born out of this tragedy.

OK. What's odd about this picture?
Bonus: Why would they do what they're doing?

More than that. They're wearing uniforms of each other's army. They were first cousins (along with the king of Great Britain btw. Queen Victoria of GB was all their grandmother.) and they were all honorary Field Marshals & Admirals of each other's armies and navies.

Yeah I vaguely remember reading something about them digging to Houston and essentially making it a port city.

I didn't look it up, so it must be entire uniform.

If I remember correctly Kaiser Wilhelm was attending yacht races at Kiel Germany and was actually wearing the uniform of a Admiral of the British Royal Navy when he received word that war was eminent.

Back to the city scenes...
What city and what's happened?
Hint: It's in Europe and it's not WWI or WWII.

Paris.
Although the photograph looks a little older, maybe the 1910 flood of the Siene?
Posted on 7/8/14 at 12:27 pm to Darth_Vader
My guess is Paris. Pre WWI. Not to familiar with European disputes.

Galveston, TX

Too easy.

Almost looks like they might be trying to dig their subway... maybe something blew up while attempting.

It looks like water and flood damage, but could be barricades. 19th century - photography too advanced to have been Napoleonic - I don't think the Prussians sieged the city, although the photographs look right for the time period.
Paris Commune, May 1871? That was a week or so after the war ended.

Great thread by the way.
I was going to guess it was after the 1876 world cup final where germany and england captains traded jerseys.
