What if that Hiroshima bomb had landed just a little further to the left and hit the river?

You detonate those bombs before they hit the ground

Thanks for the non-snarky answer. Honestly didn't know that. I assumed that the impact would be great enough to detonate a bomb regardless.

I took our family to the new BassPro wildlife museum/aquarium in Springfield recently and they had a large exhibit of Native American artifacts. They also had the pic of the bison skulls and it was captioned that the US Govt knew that the indians held the bison as a sacred animal and it was their goal eradicate the buffalo. I think another photo said that Wild Bill killed over 400 by himself. It made me feel pissed and sad at the same time.

The aiming point for the bomb was the Aioi Bridge (the t-shape to the upper left of the crosshairs in the photo), because it was easy to see from the air.

The bomb drifted slightly (either from a miscalculation by the bombardier or due to winds) and detonated directly over the Shima Hospital (just to the right of the right river branch). 80 patients and staff were killed instantly.

Dr. Shima and his personal nurse were out of town assisting with a surgery and were the only staff members to survive the bomb.

When they returned, the only things they found in the rubble were a medical instrument and the bleached bones of the patients and staff that had been killed and instantly skeletonized.
