Heads up for those traveling between Baton Rouge and Lafayette this week

DOTD has alternating lane closures planned on I-10 between Baton Rouge and Lafayette starting today through Sept. 10.

The state Department of Transportation and Development has scheduled the alternating lane closures for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., each day beginning Tuesday (Sept. 2) through Wednesday, Sept. 10. Crews will be doing routine bridge inspections along the stretch between milepost 117 and Whiskey Bay (milepost 127).

That includes Saturday, the day of an LSU home game against Sam Houston State. However, the closures will end four and a half hours before the 6:30 p.m. kickoff, and the lane will be closed in the westbound direction, so DOTD officials say they're not concerned about traffic problems in that case.

DOTD spokesperson Deidra Druilhet said "the time and direction of the inspections were chosen when traffic impacts would be minimal."

However, the agency is advising drivers to take alternate routes, including I-49 and US 190.

Tuesday's (Sept. 2) closure is on the eastbound side of the interstate, while Wednesday through Saturday is planned for the westbound side. Sunday through next Tuesday are on the eastbound side, while next Wednesday will be on the westbound side.
