Have you ever changed careers after having success in another?

What was your experience? Did/do you regret it? What made you make the switch?

Yup. Porno. Dick's too big.

Yes.
If it's something you want to do whether it be to fulfill a dream, it interests you more, etc. just do it. I "started over" essentially on my 27th birthday. Haven't regretted it for a millisecond.

Did you go back to school or were you able to make a change without it?

Yes more than once. New Home sales in Texas... Did real well. Got burned out and went to heavy industrial construction moved up to Engineering Manager and Quality Manager (different jobs). Decided I got tired of traveling from job to job and decided to settle in Idaho. Just became a real estate agent again because I truly do love doing this. And I'm 41 but always like shaking things up a bit.

I used to be a ship captain in the territorial waters of Neverland. Then, I retired to chase my lifelong dream of being a dental assistant. Turns out my hook works perfectly for scraping plaque.

Same here. Burned out completely on sales. I've had success in it, but I have to make a change.

Yes. Went from a pharmacist to a lawyer. Some regrets. Mainly that I didn't pursue a career in the pharma industry before making the switch.

Left the Restaurant/Hospitality business. Went back to school. Entered building and construction. Didn't regret it, haven't regretted it a day. Knew if i wanted a family, closing restaurants and bars and working holidays in a hotel wasn't going to be conducive to a "normal" family life.

In the process right now. Spent my entire adult life in healthcare. Worked my way up to Senior Leadership at a nationally ranked hospital.
Along the way I picked up a hobby of making booze. People enjoyed it and word of mouth got us into some events and a few headlines.
I didn't like the changes I was seeing in healthcare and believe more is to come. I decided It would be wise to have an exit strategy. I'd always worked with an entrepreneurs mindset yet always for someone else.
So my hobby has ended up turning into my next profession and I'm opening a commercial winery this year. Scared shitless and exuberant all at the same time.

Yes.
Had to go back to school (which I did enjoy).
I like what I do (esp. the greater compensation), but I miss my former career.

Man, these responses are great. I did HSE related work while in the military. Got the B.S. degree and I've been doing sales for the past few years, but I absolutely loathe it. I've been trying to get into HSE in the civilian world, but have had no success thus far. I appreciate all the info.
