I'd love to live in Colorado; however, those housing prices are insane.

Overall, yes. Keeps the riffraff out.

If you really want to go off the grid, I'd suggest looking at Telluride. One of the coolest towns in America with an awesome skiing environment during ski season
I have a few buddies that live up there now that work at the resort. They absolutely love it.

Just about the whole West Slope is garbage. There are exceptions but not many. I agree with Glenwood being one of them. I don't call Durango "west slope"

Boulder County is the epicenter of liberalness, but you go just a few miles north to Longmont and it does a 180 just like that.
Colorado is actually a pretty conservative state overall.

Don't live there full time but we own a second home in Golden off hwy 93 and we are planning on moving there eventually. I love the area. Don't know what kind of work you are looking for but Estes Park is nice. You really can't go wrong moving most anywhere out there.

Uncle lives in Telluride
Great town, but seems to be probably out of your price point. There are still options but I would say do Colorado Springs or Denver if you are under 35.

Ridgway and Ouray should be considered if looking in the San Juan area.
But if you want to go "off grid" then Marble or Redstone is the answer.
