Say someone basically wants to do acting research by working as a bartender or something in Vegas. Sort of slumming, but not scary slumming, just interesting slumming. What area to live in that is reasonably affordable but preferably not too suburby. Or best to just suburb and drive in?

I’d say you should wait until this covid shite is in check.

Do you have tits? You’ll make a lot more money if you have tits.

Obviously, and obviously, but sadly the person in question does not.

I mean what exact experience is the person looking for..simple bartending? Bartending at a strip restaurant? Slinging drinks at bar within a casino on the strip?

Many food establishment off strip have casinos and bars too

Bartending at either a trendy dance bar or pool side bar (good luck getting that especially without tits).

Vegas is dead...think Atlantic city part 2. Been here 27 years. Four letters should come to mind, when thinking of landing a job right now in the hospitality sector...f...u...k...t! That being said. Bartend where the strip workers go after shift. Get a job in event hosting, you will see all sides of Vegas, quickly. Away from the strip, its any other town / small city. gl

Thank you. Exactly the kind of tip he was looking for.
(I told him you can find anything you need to know on TD) But you don’t feel like it’ll all pick back up a few months after vaccine?

I'm from there. Go somewhere else until this is done. Sisolak is killing Vegas.

You haven’t lived unless you’ve been to Vegas...

I’ve known a couple people that moved there years ago. They only lived there for 3 years or so on a job. Basically living there, you’re not really close to or desire to do much ‘Vegas’ things and overall it’s a pretty trashy town outside the tourist areas.

Nobody does. They all live out at Area 51 and fly in everyday for work.

I did for 4 years and hated it

Sure the strip is cool but the average/everyday life there sucked. Very dangerous, dirty, flat, no grass... ugly as frick and hot as hell in the summer and annoying windy cold I’m the winter

UNLV area seems pretty inexpensive.

I have an old friend that lives north of town. I visit every year for a conference.

We got married in Vegas and it was like 116 one day. Dry heat my arse. That is miserable.

With our current mess of a Governor?

It's no accident that Nevada currently has the second highest unemployment rate in the US.

We're one of the states where the political locusts from California swarmed in and things went to shite. That said, there's still any number of places around the valley where one could find interesting stories or work environments. I think that the Downtown / Fremont Street area would work better than The Strip. It has more of a "seedy" and a locals service industry vibe. Even in Boulder City, which is devoid of gaming, you have quite a few interesting folks.

(Don’t know how to do the quote, sorry for the dumb)
Pretty much all of that, I think, and exposure to the high rollers, too. So I guess try to work in a good casino and hang out after with the other people in the service industry. He’s thinking that all types go to Vegas, but no body with money wants to live there, so cost of living not high.

We won’t be near back to normal until conventions come back. So even if the governor declares tomorrow that we can start gathering in large groups again, all these conventions have to reschedule for months down the road.
