yeah. She has a policy already and we aren't planning on filing joint yet.

No sense in doing a family policy yet. Will wait and see how things are after she goes full time.

She can go full time in August and would then have insurance and I could get on that plan.

My wife is a teacher in Texas and it would cost about $500 more a month to add me on her plan. I hope it's different where you are, but I have a feeling it isn't.

Been doing this ever since Obamacare was implemented

I've saved almost 20k by just paying the fine.

It's $285 a month to add a spouse to the plan.
But it's a good insurance.

$280-350 is where I wanted to be. I'll complain a bit, but I pay more for car insurance and never use it either.

"You can afford many "catastrophes", and the subsequent hospital bill, for $18000, such as a broken leg in a car wreck."

You havn't had much experience with hospital bills, have you? My kidney stone lithotripsy bill was almost $20K. Another simple out-patient surgery was $26K. I will be paying about $23K in medical insurance premiums in 2017, and $3000 ea in deductibles for my daughter, wife, and me before BCBS,pays a fricking penny. That said, I know I am a heartbeat away from financial implosion if I had one serious medical event...or 2 less serious ones like the ones I had last year.

Exactly the same for me. Sorry but I am not paying $600+ a month for less benefits for something I was paying $300 for and happy with. I guess we should just shut down all small business. Glad MAGA is happening
