Have a 2007 wrangler, it came with that option. I bought it in 2008 and the warranty didn't transfer over. If I had the lifetime powertrain warranty, I would go get the rear main seal replaced right now. $450 at the dealership.

Instead I just change the oil ever 5,000 miles and don't worry about it.

And this doesn’t seem like a loss leader case

Usually these things are scams.

If you dont get every single service at the dealership on time it voids.
If you do your own air filter change at home it voids.

Powertrain no, but that is not where the problems occur on today's cars, it is the electronics. On four vehicles ( two Hyuandai, a F150, and a Lexus RX350) the extended warranties have replaces two Nav/Audio units, a heated power seat, a backup camera, repaired the blind side warning system, and a climate control system. The cost to replace/repair this stuff exceeded the extended warranties cost by a good margin.
