I couldn't agree more. In this case it's not grief porn but elation porn. I can't think of a more attention seeking activity than gathering a few pre adolescent children that miss their father/mother tremendously in front of a gymnasium full of relative strangers and surprising them with their loved one's unsuspected return. But even that isn't as bad as filming it and posting it to a social media site. It's like the person orchestrating this reunion is saying "look how good of a person I am for being involved in this reunion".

basically people "mourn" on the internet to show others how "human" and "compassionate" they are so they feel better about themselves.
This essentially describes how I felt about the ALS ice bucket challenge. These types of things have become the trendy thing to do.
To some individuals who post these things on Facebook it resembles people's response to chain emails on AOL years ago.

As dumb as the ice bucket challenge was at least it raised money I guess. Posting videos of your kid dying doesn't really do anything

Last I checked he raised over $60,000 by releasing that video. I'm sure he can use that to help with medical and or funeral costs.
Its not so much about people who reach out with these videos, or the potential good it does. The point of the article is that some people feed off of these types of stories.

Raised money for what? I have even more of a problem with this if he posted the video to get sympathy money for himself

You know medical costs of an emergency C-section, having a baby in the NICU for 4 days, or the funeral expenses of two people.
I don't know that that was the intention of the "black bird" video. However, a fund was started to help the guy out and people contributed online.
