Mamma's Fish House, while famous, is incredibly over priced. The food is alright but not nearly as good as a few other local gems. They do have a wonderful view.

A lot of the locals are kind, but there are hostile racists in Hawaii that hate haole tourists. Especially the more local islands like Maui, Kauai, Molokai, etc..

Boom. You are 100 percent correct. There are some true local assholes on any island. My first experience with Maui assholes was on the Hana Road.

If you've never driven the Hana road it is intimidating at first. On one side of the two lane highway are either cliffs or dense forest and the other side is a straight shot drop down to the ocean that would certainly kill you. Not to mention that it is incredibly curvy, and on some curves the road goes from 2 lane to 1 lane. I was attempting to go around a 1 lane curve and some Maui assholes began honking and cussing behind me. When they finally passed, they all flipped us off and yelled a bunch of racist shite.

I was like, "WTF? I'm not going to drive 50 miles an hour around a 1 lane curve when I can't see what's on the other side."

Locals at the Hana Hotel told us to ignore those type of people. They're usually drunken or drugged out youth that are itching to start shite with mainlanders.

the road to Hana is beautiful but if you want a bit of a rush go around the road on the opposite end of the island, it starts in town not too far from the airport and goes around towards Kaanapali, hair pin turns, no shoulders at some places, you can stop in your lane, open the passenger side door and look straight down to the shoreline, a few scattered carcasses of some not so carefully driven cars of sightseers or locals along the way, beautiful sights but you've really got to pay attention

There is a really cool glass artist in that same area. Very pretty over there. Completely different type of scenery around Kaanapali versus Hana.

If you go to Maui and do not take the road to Hana, the 7 sacred polls, black sand beach etc., you have not been to Maui...

Road to Hana is neat, off the beaten path stop for lunch and ends up at a winery

Food is terrible in Maui except for any fresh fruit, go to Lahaina for some nice litte eating places right on the water

Snorkel off Molokini was awesome, got to see whales riding out and did coral reef snorkeling followed by snorkeling with the turtles

Luau at one of the hotels is always nice as well, buffet style dining, food is average

I thought the Luau would be cheesy, but it exceeded expectations and we walked out of there incredibly drunk.

You must do the Lahaina Luau. The pork is pretty damn good, but the Mai Tai's are even better.

I am going to Maui in May and we are doing the road to Hana.

However, we hired a driver via Maui Easy Riders to take us along the road. It's a little pricey at $300 but they drive your car and show you the less touristy/populated stops along the way. Really excited for this day of the trip.

I wouldn't recommend this. Honestly. Buy the book "Maui Revealed", rent a car, and then find all the "hidden stuff" along the road for free. That book will tell you where to locate hidden waterfalls, beaches, and destinations off the Hana Road based on mile marker and it will even tell you where the trail is at and how far away the destination is.

Save yourself $300 and use that money at the Hana Hotel to experience a nice lunch/dinner.

"Maui Revealed" will show you more than that tour will and the reason is because some of the best places off the Hana Road are places the locals don't want tourists to see. That's why "Maui Revealed" (aka The Blue Book by the locals) is not popular with the locals.

Lahaina and go snorkeling at Molokini Crater. One of the best experiences of my life. It was pretty surreal.

used to be part of an old gunnery range, if you've got a good set of lungs or are using scuba, you can see(pick up) a lot of spent ordinance off the bottom, also check out Lindberg's grave on Hana trip

The problem with Driving and not getting a driver and driving is you miss alot of the scenery. Take your eyes off the road to long and youll end up in the Pacific Ocean

It was very cool. The best vacation I have ever gone on and we also went with inlaws...they watched our baby so we could go do stuff together that we never could have done hauling a kid around. plus I had a golf partner in my father in law. It was a win win
