As a kid, I was always confused by my Catholic friends cursing Jesus's mom.
All I heard was "Hell Mary" and assumed being a Presbyterian was a lot safer.

I grew up going to the 1st Presbyterian Church.Every Sunday.Sit will Mother and Grandmother.I thought it was unfair that my Dad didn't go.He played Golf or in the Winter got to watch the start of the NFL game I was missing.
I didn't think about the fact that he went to the Office 6 days a week before 7 am.He took Wendsday afternoon off.
Presbyterian is a pretty laid back Denomination. The do Excommunicate Members who got caught having an "adulterous relationship".

Both my grandmothers would be on the 5th or 6th row on opposite sides. Funny how sitting anywhere else but your normal spot was like a major faux pas.
We always sat in the back cause me and my siblings were loud and the blue hairs couldn't turn around and swat us.

I ever told you the story about me and my twin brother and our trip with our grandparents to their church. Well my brother and I were sitting between my grandma and grandpa. The old lady singer was preparing to belt out some " One day at a time sweet Jesus". Quick back story the lady at our normal church sang this same song more like in a country music gospel kind of way. Well back to th story, the old lady cleared her throat and started belting out some opera version of "One day at a time" me and my bro busted out laughing. My grandma was pissed she quickly separated us and there was a quick silence. The old lady kept on singing I glanced around my grandpa and made eye contact with my brother and we busted out laughing again. We got hauled out the church with a quickness. Never saw my grandma ever that mad again. No arse beating but just a great memory now.

As a kid, trying to suppress church laughter was a losing battle.
My little brother fell asleep while propping his head up on the end of the pew armrest.
Well of course his hand slipped and his head hit the wooden armrest. KA-POW in the middle of a quiet moment.
I still laugh but not at the butt beating we got later.
He always succeeded in making me laugh by singing "in excelsis Day Old Bread".
We got in trouble a lot.
And I'm going to Hail.

My Dad hit me on the head with a spoonful of mashed potatoes one time for laughing too much at the dinner table.Good times.

Old school parenting. Creates some good and bad memories though. How about some ole discipline in school. Principals and teachers wearing your arse out or launching erasers at the students.
