12 step programs have their place but they are not for everyone. I do a lot of Motivational Treatment and individualize treatment. Te main thing is treating everyone with respect and as a person. We have found addiction is a lifelong disease and has a genetic component. No one wakes up and calls a friend and say hey lets go get hooked 0n heroin today.
And Cup it's like being Dave Kingman. Strike out a lot but when we hit one out of the park it's a thing of beauty.

I used to help with our EAP for our pilot group, they advocated(at the time, don't know what's going on now,) the 12 step recovery program, it was the sleaziest, cult like atmosphere imaginable, I don't think even the docs and psych guys believed in it but they had to sell something to the Feds to help get guys their medical certificates back, I suppose
