Had a 2011 with bad lifters. They misdiagnosed it 4 times. Started at around 85000 miles. When they finally figured it out, they offered a rebuild for 2000.00 out if pocket, new motor for 1800.00. Or 3000.00 in extra rebate if I picked a new truck and traded old one in. Went with new truck. They told me that 1800.00 was 25% cost if new motor.

If it's just a bad lifter, just change the lifter. Did it damage the camshaft? If not, there is no need to rebuild the engine. Even if it did damage the cam, replace the cam. You don't need a new engine. The bottom end of the LS engines are dang near bulletproof. Only way they will go bad is neglect.
the truck LS motors are infamous for the DOD lifters going bad and also wiping out cam lobes.
You have to pull the heads to access the lifters. What happens is the lifter collapses and the pin in the lifter that is used to hold the lifter open shuts and pins the lifter collapsed and kills the cylinder.
Edit: and another thing that happens to damn near every LS motor is the oil pump pickup tube o-ring tears and introduces air into the oil system causing the oil pump to cavitate and loose oil pressure.
I have a suspicion that this also causes the lifter and cam lobes to fail prematurely

Not at all. Just stating an opinion on the return of investment.
