Many years ago I was living in a rental house that was infested with roaches. Only takes a couple of times when you pull a cup out of the cupboard and a roach runs out to convince you to stack them rim down.

Now that I live an a clean house, it isn't an issue. My wife prefers them stacked with the rim up. That isn't an issue worth arguing about.

I know all OTers live in immaculate houses cleaned my teams of professionals every day. But, assuming you have more than a few cups,classes etc.. wouldn't dust and stuff settle into a cup placed rim up?

I would have would have my Swedish Bikini Team member massage therapist ask one of the staff but she said they're busy re-polishing dishes in the cupboard right now
