What preys on them in east Asia?
The webs are completely different from golden orb weavers. They're not a big circle with a zig-zag in the middle like our "banana spiders." These webs are huge, 3-D monstrosities that can actually catch hummingbirds. Totally different.
As for what preys on them - Asians prey on them. Asians are the only people in the world who will eat stranger things than Cajuns.

I don’t understand how they build them. It’s like a huge nebulous of a web the size of an armchair that is 15 feet off the ground in a 20 foot gap between trees.
