Tropical/subtropical conditions with millions even billions of people. We shouldn’t be shocked by this.

Spin-off: why is SE Asia so damned populous? Do they just have better farm land to support said populations? I’m including India in this.

SE Asia is VERY FERTILE farmland. Also, the various Chinese and Mongol empires built infrastructure and economies that would put the Roman Empire to shame.

China and South Asia represent two massive landmasses with very fertile soil, early domestication of crops (including rice, which can be grown in a wide variety of environments), with easy access to trade routes by water and land. Most of the humans who have ever lived have lived in that area.
