trying to remember, but I think it had to do something with reducing the rate at which offspring is born with the virus.
The issue became that the indigenous species, only flew a 400m radius, and they were cross bred with a kind that travels miles. So while the successful birthrate declined, the expanse it's able to cover has significantly increased.
