Heck, One SHELL Square is now becoming the Whitney/Hancock Center.

In fairness, NOLA is taking (newborn) baby steps to diversify but if the educational system in Louisiana isn't going to be fixed, Louisiana will have to essentially rely on importing people to fill jobs and that's not sustainable.

Sure, you can get 22 year olds to come down here "for the adventure" or whatnot but once they get a few years under their belt and/or they get older and more cynical watching their tax money vanish into a hole, they're ready to jet.

A 750k house in New Orleans would cost 250k in most cities in the south. Thats just absurd. I really enjoy the city, as frustrating as it cam be at times.
Those that move here out of college would have to love it too, because it doesnt make much sense financially.

Then maybe don't move onto St. Charles Avenue?

If you're comparing a million dollar historic mansion in the heart of the city to a prefabbed house in a subdivision I think your being intentionally obtuse.

There are plenty of affordable places to live in and around the city

A lot of neptutisn that's for sure. Annoying but if you know the right people you make nice coin and life like a god.

I've always said. All the Nola hate in this board is just jealously.

High real estate prices coupled with a bad job market is a bubble waiting to burst

I was just mentioning how high housing prices are. I rented too.

I have a bunch of friends that took jobs in Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, etc. and, while thyd like to move home, it doesnt make sense if they have to downsize their homes, pay a shitload more in insurance, and settle for a job. There just aren't many opportunities, which is sad.

There's been a ton of negative momentum in the city this year. The statue debacle was just that, a fricking debacle. Regardless of whether you think they should have been removed, I think everyone can agree that it was a shitshow that made our city and its citizens look like idiots. The crime this year has been ridiculous. Luckily the murders have dropped the last two months, but there have been an inordinate amount of shootings and violent crimes. More importantly, the crimes are happening in areas that should be safe. Attacks in the FQ and Garden District during daylight is absurd. To cap it off, the fricking floods. How can you not be infuriated as a citizen given how our local government has handled the flooding this year? The incompetence is almost comical.

Throw in high rent, high housing costs, awful roads and an economy that seems to have slowed from previous years' growth and you have a lot of disgruntled people. I'm one of them, and I won't be here much longer.

The city loves its citizens much less than its citizens love the city.

Commuting is ok for most who hate the shitshow the city of new orleans is

i think the issue that will always hold Nola back (and make it "not worth it" to many) is that the allure of Nola is, essentially, all based in dysfunction. that's not exactly going to lead to optimal situations over time long haul

People that already live Uptown...they are just either downsizing or upgrading.

ETA: Or they are moving out of their girlfriends parents house.

Im not talking about me. Im just saying if you want to have companies stay or relocate to New Orleans, it is an uphill battle when housing prices are absurd.

It doesnt matter what neighborhood it is in - Lakeview here is still way more expensive than a comparable neighborhood in another city in the south. A person who isnt from here would have a hard time convincing their spouse theyre moving into a neighborhood that is probably not as safe as the one they were in, theyre moving into a house that is much smaller, and theyre going to pay for a school that was twice as much as their previous one.
