It’s starting to get there. Oculus Go and the Steam/Valve budget HMDs will make it more accessible and get more people to buy Vives and Rifts.

Social platforms like VRChat where you can design your own game and create your own avatar on the pixel/vertices level will really get a lot of people playing more.

Watching the Hulk and Hank Hill give head pats to Elsa from Frozen and some weird anime girl in a virtual bar while a floating owl with one eye serves virtual drinks is a crazy experience and happens fairly often already. Then they can go to another world and play capture the flag against each other.
