Friend built a motor for a last year Trans-Am Firehawk by himself. Sent car to be tuned, only. 1198 at the crank and 998 at the wheels. I asked him why he didn't ask the shop to try one more time. Problem is street legal tires never hook up.

In 69 they introduce the Super Cobra Jet on the Mach 1. It had a beefed up reciprocating assembly. Same 428 but things like cap screw connecting rods etc.

During that era, Ford made almost too many variations to keep up with.

Barret Jackson owes me and my friends from high school and college a check. We heavily modified a bunch or rare Mustangs beyond saving. I "killed" 3 K Code 67/68 GTs and a "perfectly" optioned 69 Boss 302.

I had a GF in high school and freshman year of college who flew from her college to mine to visit me I picked her up in what she last saw as a 1967 K code GT in Ivy Green, it had morphed into a Hertz Shelby GT 350H look alike in black with old gold Lemans stripes with a blown 351W in it. She took one look and said "you killed my pony" at the time I thought you silly girl now 30 or so years later I realize just how wise she was.

Well, it is actually that 1000 pound-feet of torque but no DOT tire is going to hook that well even on a heavily glued track. ON the right track in the right conditions, you might be able to roll most of the power out on the big end on 325s but chances are you would be peddling like a 3yo on a tricycle going down the Blue Bayou water slide.
