I'm sure everyone who has responded to this thread was totally an alcoholic and quit cold turkey.

The biggest thing that helps me is going to a weekly meeting. It's not a true AA but a recovery group within my church for people dealing with all types of addictions. There is so much power in just talking about whatever it is that you're going through so that it doesn't have hold on you anymore. Always remember that there is not substitute for the continuation of time in your sobriety. Just make it to that next minute, hour, or day sober and keep stacking days. Triggers will always be there but the thought cravings will subside with time.

No. Someone who is chemically dependent on alcohol should never quit turkey, unless they want to die. That said, NA beer still has around .5 percent alcohol, so it’s like a little microdose.
