I think Pit Bulls cause unease among dog lovers because they remind us of what's bad about dogs: that dogs are predatory, unpredictable, and not universally welcome.
When confronted with this uncomfortable reminder, dog lovers turn the tables by attaching all of those bad things to Pit Bulls alone. The inconvenient reminder is turned into a convenient scapegoat.

The DNA tests confirmed that our dogs are pure mutts so they probably have a pit bull cousin.

Well said. APBTs have the 2nd best temperment among all dogs behind only the golden retriever. Thats a tested and studied fact. Just like humans, there are bad ones, mostly due to the shitty outlier owners who beat them or teach them to be aggressive.

If you own a pit bull and u ever take it outside, u are a scumbag human being. There are no exceptions. God will judge you....I hope he gets the opportunity to before your poor decision takes an innocent life.

I have a pure bred pit. Pure happenstance how we came about getting her. Never specifically sought a pit as a dog, but ended up with her. Great dog. 11 years old and has never bitten anyone or any other dogs. We are cognizant of others’ fears of the breed so we always have her properly leashed when out and about. Threads like this just perpetuate the fear of the breed. Yes, a lot of shitty people own pits. Yes, those shitty people likely can’t/won’t properly care for or train the dog. However, there are also a lot of great owners who will have dogs that will never be an issue. A lot of the responses in this thread are pretty pathetic.
