Bats are no joke when it comes to that shite. I think more deaths occur these days from rabid bats than rabid cats or dogs. Nobody ever hears about it though because it's so rare.

Rest easy little guy.

Deputies didn’t see the bat, but they took the pit bull and a cat to the Sheriff’s Office’s animal shelter for testing. Delibro did not know the results of the tests.

I think they have to cut their heads off, so yeah.

FYI:

Standard medical procedure is if you are even slightly suspicious that you may have been exposed to a bat bite/saliva/urine/etc. in a cut/the eye/etc. go get prophylactic treatment at the ER. It’s a reasonably simple treatment(a shot I believe) to help prevent a horrible death by rabies.

Once symptoms start, there is almost nothing that can be done.

Edit: Seriously, death rates among symptomatic individuals are almost 100%.

Nope, that’s what they do after the fact. Observation for 1-2 weeks, if the animal dies then they examine brain tissue.

After the scratch, Henry Roque said in the interview, he washed the wound but didn’t take Ryker to the hospital because the boy cried when he was told he would need shots.

As sad as this is, this is totally something my parents would have done if I threw a fit as a kid

Deaths due to rabies from bats are so rare probably because most people who find a sick bat have enough sense to not keep it around, and would actually seek medical treatment immediately if a family member was scratched or bitten by the sick bat.

So sad that poor little boy died from this.

Yep I believe there's been a total of one confirmed case in human history where no treatment was given and the patient lived
