Fixing Sleep Apnea with apap/cpap technology.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and recorded a whooping 70 events per hour. Im fat but only to lose about 20lbs. I snore like a tank at night lol.. Was prescribed an apap machine(auto calibrates itself to keep you from stop breathing while asleep). After a few days of trying to get adjusted to the mask beings I am a mouth breather, I have dropped my events per hour to around 25 events. 30 or more events is considered severe sleep apnea, less than 5 is normal. I need to be at 5 or less every night. Having wind blow up my nose is my struggle right now. I'm in process of getting a mouth only mask of which I think will be the game changer. I have experienced severe fatigue daily, extreme hunger, raise in blood pressure and just about every symptom of sleep apnea which some are dangerous. For the first time in years, I actually didn't feel like wanting to pass(being extremely tired and sleepy)out to at work which is a severe side effect of sleep apnea. I don't feel on edge and much more im more relaxed. Loss of unwanted weight are also in the future according to my doctor from getting better "sleep". Even though I'm not where I need to be yet I have noticed the difference in a short time.
What are your experiences/struggles with sleep apnea, what has worked for you and your road to recovery. Any tips ?

Get a cpap machine. I’m sorry I should’ve read your post better. I try to sleep on my back as much as possible or gently on my side because of the hose.

I got a cpap a week ago with a nose and mouth mask. It’s like day and night. I was only at like 15 events per night but an down to 1 - 2 now.
Best I can say is try on different masks and adjust the pressure until it works for you.
Maybe try some ZZZquil or something…

Leave it untreated. There’s so many horrible ways to die, who doesn’t want to die in their sleep?

I did. Its an apap machine. Unlike a cpap machine that has one setting set for someone, an apap has auto calibration and adjusts to what amount of air you need to breath correctly at night while alseep on its own. If your setting changes due to improved health, loss of weight etc, it will adjust for u automatically.

The head straps and breathing attachments (nose pillow, nose mask, whole face mask etc.) will wear out rather fast.
I’m frugal so I try to make them last, but when I start having problems and waking up inexplicably, I have learned it’s time to change them.
I order them off of Amazon.

Try different masks. You’ll actually sleep and feel better generally

Good for you man - I work in the sleep apnea arena and the comorbidities list is long with severe sleep apnea. Cardiologist especially see the effects of untreated sleep apnea. Hypertension is unresponsive to medications, strokes, memory loss, and the weight gain complicates so much more on top of it. Stick with it.

Baw, sleep apnea is horrific. You wake up gasping for air with horrible nightmares constantly. Them there’s the lack sleep all the time. It’s like torture.

No doubt, congrats, I'm excited to get it down. I think once I get the mouth only mask(being shipped to me) I'll be good, I have the Dreamwear mask(full mask) with nose ventilation. I'm getting some mask leaking because the air going up my nose is rough lol. I dont breathe thru nose at all at night. I have a resvent ibreeze apap. Machine is great.

quote:this has been my struggle with my bp or was. When bp was up, I have gone thru so many bp meds and none seem to work, then Dr asked if I have problems sleeping at night. Found the sleep disorder. Bp started dropping with meds after getting therapy. Thanks for the positive words.....
Hypertension is unresponsive to medications

Ok I guess I didn’t understand your question. Mine adjusts automatically as well. I have the nose pillows.

Life will dramatically improve if you adapt to the machine.
Don't count on it.

quote:I spoke to a guy who had apnea and he was prescribed a mouthpiece to allow airway to breath during sleep, he lost 60lbs in 5 months. He was 275 before. Dr said severe sleep apnea causes unwanted weight gain, increased hunger during the night.
Don't count on it.

It’s great. I go to sleep. Put the mask on, engage, and repeat my little sleep
