It was a pure bullshite statement.
TIL safety technology in vehicles has not gotten any better since 1972.
ETA: Do I need to translate what TIL means for the salty boomer?

My dad got me a 93 ford ranger. Manual transmission.
His thought process was that it’s not a fast sports car. The truck wasn’t able to carry a bunch of passengers, so I couldn’t be the kid driving everyone everywhere. And the manual transmission stopped most other kids from being able to drive my car.
I loved it.
I will follow similar guidelines with my kids.

No one is arguing the safety factor. Sure, technology has made cars safer.
You sensitive vagina little girls act like cars of the past were all death traps. They were not.

So stupid. So incredibly stupid.

I'll buy something lightly used, reliable, and safe, and do what my parents did, make them pay for gas and half of insurance. They'll get one car from us for high school through college, and then something new if they graduate college.

Yea, you are. You said his post was bullshite. I'd argue a wreck in a $900 40+ year old vehicle isn't going to go well, and you would too if you were being honest.

New cars are exponentially safer, there is literally no arguing that.

Since I never drive it, it is about to leave. I am trading it to another guy to do some major repairs on another vehicle.
It's been a damn good truck. I just no longer need it.
Been a lot of different cars parked beside it through the years. From sports cars to SUVs,, but the old truck stayed. I will be sad to see it go.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, is it, dumbass?

And if you had gotten into a moderate wreck you probably would have been dead or seriously injured.
That statement is pure bullshite.

Did you go the route of buying a new (or newer) really nice vehicle so they look cool?
For the sake of derailing the personal sniping about financial responsibility and directing the discussion back to OP's question, I will sacrificially offer this info: The first automobile I gave my daughter was a Porsche convertible. Of course she didn't pay for it - she was ten.
Now you all can downvote me and quit shitting on each other for a while. Have a nice day.

I plan on getting a jeep wrangler soon as a third vehicle then handing down in three years.
