Nice work, Captain. Congratulations.

I could see this suggestion being made to my drill Sargent. Then I could see them smoking our arse until we puked. And then smoking us again for puking.
I know, I was joking with my post but it would be hilarious if a cadet actually asked that.

Time is not an issue. You spend plenty of time at the range. The ruck is for conditioning
I know!

Women just don't have the hips to ruck long distances.
This is the problem they're having with the women trying to go through Ranger School right now. They do fine on the obstacle course/swim test/5 mile run in >40 mins, but when they introduce the ruck for the 14 miler in Darby phase, it's basically game over.
And I love all the hard asses in here that think 12 miles in under 3hrs with a 40lb ruck (I'd be willing to bet any amount of money that her ruck was not even close to 70lbs) is some cake walk. Sure, if you're Infantry it is a sort of norm, but this a fricking female veterinarian. It's not like going on your Sunday hike with all of your Northface shite and tennis shoes. There is a much higher level of suck when you throw in the ACH, weapon, boots and an uncomfortable arse ruck.

Judging by the encouragement she got and how happy everyone else was that she finished they sure seemed impressed and proud. That's good enough for me.

Tell you one thing about one of my DS that made life hell on us. The dude had a lisp. I'm talking a lisp that would make even Sylvester that Cat and Lou Holtz take notice. Every time he talked you wanted to die laughing. But he was the type that if he ever saw you even smile in his general direction, he'd make you regret ever being born.

Hell sub guys bitched about having to do 1.5 mile runs. I mean the longest US sub is about 500ft from fwd to aft. We were all in agreement that our longest runs should have been 500ft or so.

I am sure I would have laughed at it once on the first day......but only once!

My Basic Training Company had DS Love, Polite, and Bright. I thought that was ironic.

I turtled (fell on my back and ruck...think a turtle that has been flipped on its back with its legs kicking) about a quarter mile before the finish line. Rifle went flying into the woods, and I couldn't bend my knees at all - muscles had just totally locked up in cramps from dehydration and exhaustion. Buddy of mine found my rifle, pulled me up, and I Frankensteined the way home. Went straight to the medics and got an IV put in along with half the rest of the class.
This makes me think of the funniest thing I saw at Benning. We were finishing up a night ruck at about 5 AM when a deer came tearing out of the woods and knocked a guy on his arse. The drill sergeant was in front of him and when he looked back he started unloading on the private for laying in the road. The private just stood up and started walking again. Maybe you had to be there.

Mine was from Greece and you couldn't understand half the shite he said, which, of course, would piss him off and we'd get smoked.

Ha, I can picture it.
More funny stories than I would expect came out of that place. I look back on it pretty fondly, actually.
My cohort of 150 or so were pretty tight. We were there about a year together, and we all knew we were going to units that were either deploying right away or were already deployed after we left there, so there was a bit of a devil-may-care attitude. We all had apartments in the same complexes up 185. IOBC, especially, was a ton of fun, even if it was from May to August and really sucked in parts. Our weekends were pretty epic.
