I have never understood the aversion to companies employing different manners of psychological pricing, other than sometimes it is a PITA to get the final price.
The only thing that matters buying a car is the over-the-curb price and the only thing that matters when buying something online is the amount your credit card gets charged. Free shipping can be a negative to the consumer especially if you are buying more than one item at a time.
If you place your entire focus on the actual total and do not get sucked in by psychological pricing games it is easier to shop.
