Francisco Franco doesn't get mentioned enough when talking about evil dictators. He doesn't have the sheer numbers as others like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc, but he was absolute brutal dictator who seized power and did not relent until his death. Seems like so long ago, but he didn't die until 1975.
He's definitely an interesting character to study.

I am totally fascinated with the Joseon Kingdom (Korea) from its founding in 1392 until the Japanese colonized Korea in the early 20th century.
Taejo founded Joseon from the remnants of Goryo. He was the first king but resigned because his sons were killing each other in a power struggle. Things were generally pretty brutal politically, and the wars with the Japanese, Ming, Qing, and others are fascinating.
