This thread is getting sidetracked on the question of whether or not he should have gone to jail. I think that is a separate issue from the real problem, namely what happened to him once he was in jail.

And for the record (again) I have no issue with the fact this guy was put in jail.

It's absurd to think going to jail should make it foreseeable that you won't get proper medical care.

Prisons are dangerous places. Injury or death is always foreseeable when people are placed in dangerous circumstances.

From other prisoners, there's no reason they should be dangerous places due to negligence of the staff.

It also makes what the staff did no less wrong, even if your assertion is true, so I'm not sure what your argument is.
