The drug used to be dirt cheap and even on Walmart $4 list (for 30 pills) but through some shady/corrupt dealings you can no longer buy the generic in the US, only the brand/trade name Colcrys which is about $6 a pill cash price!
The generic is still available. That is all I buy when I refill my script. It is like $5 bucks for 30 pills at Walgreen's when I refill.
Now there was an issue with the maker of Colcrys tried to corner the market and jack the prices up a few years ago. However they were sued and the Feds told them no to that. You can still buy it in it's generic form as colchicine.

I have constantly either in my foot or knee .. Some days are worse than others but it's always there.
I take 10 advils every morning and usually 10 more before I go to bed. That seems to help a bit.

Just took a test on gout yesterday oddly enough. The best drugs are
Allopurinol (for chronic gout, NOT acute). Your doctor may try to push febuxostat instead (a newer drug), but insist on allopurinol. It's literally 100x cheaper and is just as effective
Colchicine for the first 24 hours of an acute attack
Indomethacin for daily pain relief (this is basically just a more potent form of advil)
Prednisone if the indomethacin isn't enough for your pain
Also, if you bang your foot on something or have some other kind of trauma, that can dislodge crystals that have built up in your bones and set off a nasty attack, so keep that in mind

U sure about that? You must be using your insurance drug coverage and the $5 is your copay. Goodrx is a good indication of cash prices ---
Goodrx colchicine

There's been times where I've had to crawl to the bathroom to piss at night.
Last night I was pissing in a bucket by my bed because going to the bathroom just wasn't worth it. I'm glad my wife and kids are out of town.

I've had it one time in my left big toe. It felt like someone was going to town on my toe with a blowtorch. It lasted about 10-14 days and I've not had an attack since. Terrible, burning pain. Felt like I could fry an egg if I set it on my big toe.

I had it really bad in my knee a couple years ago. Not fat fwiw. Very painful.
